Chantiers AMEL S.A is a very well respected shipyard the world over since the late 1960s, famous for building superb world girdlers in superb quality. Amel are famous for building "go-anywhere ketches" that take good care of their crew regardless of which oceans you cross or in which remote bay you anchor. Security, being extremely sea-worthy, designed to be managed by a cruising-couple, and many clever solutions are all part of the package when you buy into the world of Amel. The spirit of Henri Amels is ever present. There are many typical Amel solutions that define the concept, among them are the ketch rig, the very well protected cockpit with the characteristic helmsmans position to the side, two well-designed cabins, a galley that works, good tank volume, a crash bulk-head between the fore-peak and the main cabin etc. An Amel is easily recognizable by most people.
The Sharki is a 40-foot version of the famous Amel concept. This boat is in exceptional condition and has been in the same ownership from being hatched in 1984 until 2016. The first owner sailed her from La Rochelle to the northern coast of Germany. The boat has only sailed a couple of weeks per year in the Baltic sea since. The current owner acquired her for the 2017-season. The boat is exceptionally well managed and cared for with numerous updates and replacements having been made, including a VP D2-75 with only approximately 400 hrs on the clock. The boat is currently stored indoors in Västervik, Sweden.
The current owner has had a change of plans, why this gem of an Amel is back on the market. This is the bluewater cruiser among blue water cruisers. The testimonials from many owners are borderline poetry. Can it really be true? The curiosity of the concept and the desire to take her out for a loooong spin is definetely there....
